Rockies Keep Record Even After Break

by @ 10:47 am. Filed under 2007 Rockies

The Rockies went into the All Star Break right at .500 and now, after four games, that’s where they stand after the Rockies took care of business last night.  Still, the Rockies site just 6 1/2 back of the first place Dodgers and there’s a lot games left to be played.

Matt Holliday has picked up pretty much where he left off.  He did have the four strikeout game but he has hits in three of the last four games and he’s driven in four runs.  Even in the game where he struck out four times he still went yard.

It’s been the hitters that have carried the team recently.  In the two wins, the Rockies scored ten and the best pitching performance came on Sunday when Aaron Cook held the Brewers to two runs in six innings.

Brian Fuentes hit the disabled list and he hasn’t thrown since July 3.  He finally got out of a game without giving up a run after that nasty stretch and Manny Corpas will be filling in as the team’s closer.  Corpas is having a solid season but we’ll see how he does pitching in the ninth.  I know an inning is just an inning, but it seems like it takes a certain kind of pitcher with the right mindset to close.

The Rockies continue their series with the Pirates tonight.  Josh Fogg gets the start tonight and the Pirates will send Shane Youman to the mound.
