The good news is, more voters picked Matt Holliday at least second on their ballot then any other player in the National League. The bad news is, only eleven of those 27 votes were first place ones and Jimmy Rollins 16 first place votes carried the day. Holliday was a closer to Rollins in first place then he was to Prince Fielder in third though and only one voter had him lower then fourth place.
Holliday had a monster season. He won the batting title with a .340 average and he drove in 137 runs, which also led the league. He also led the league in hits (216) and doubles (50). With Ryan Howard and Chase Utley on the Phillies, I’m still convinced that Holliday was the most valuable player to his team. Still, second place is fitting for the slugger and I see him walking away with MVP honors at some point in the future.
Troy Tulowitzki picked up a third place vote and he finished 18th. The only Rockie to get a vote was Brad Hawpe.
