The Rockies jumped out to a big eight run lead early in the game on Friday. Sadly, a team that could really use a big win could not keep the lead and eventually lost by a score of 10-9 to the Cubs.
Jeff Baker set the club record for doubles in a game with four, but even his efforts were not enough to bring home a W. The four doubles in consecutive at-bats also tied a major league record. The club’s best pitcher was unable to keep his hot streak alive in the defeat. Aaron Cook had over a third of the Rockies wins on the year (7 of 20), but could not produce number eight.
After five innings, Cook had allowed the Cubs just four hits producing one run. In just one and a third more innings, Cook left with 10 hits allowed and seven earned runs. He allowed three homers to the Cubs, all in the inning and a third.
Manny Corpas took his place and hung a slider to Mark DeRosa who hit it out of the park to put the Cubs ahead 10-9 to stay. The homer came just after Jim Edmonds hit a two run double for the Cubs to pull the game within one.
The Cubs look to win the third straight game in the series tomorrow.
