Ubaldo Jimenez has not pitched bad this year. His record, and his teams record in his starts, do little justice in relfection of Jimenez’s season. He took the loss in a 5-3 defeat at the hands of the best team in the pros, the Cubs, and that put the Rockies record in his starts at 1-11.
The thing about Jimenez is, that when he throws well, the bats go silent. Then when he struggles, the bats are there but not enough. It is a situation that needs to be solved soon.
In the latest outing, he went five innings allowing seven hits and three earned runs to the Cubs. He struck out five and walked three.
Aramis Ramirez led the way for the Cubs, going 3-3 with a run and RBI. Alfonso Soriano hit his 13th homer of the year in the win as well. Jim Edmonds had two hits, a double and a triple. He also drove in two runs.
Sean Gallagher took the win for the Cubs, his third. He gave up three runs of 5.2 innings and struck out eight. Kerry Wood worked the ninth inning for his 14th save of the year.
