Three homers in support of starter Glendon Rusch were not enough to help the Rockies break out of their recent losing ways. Omar Quintanilla, Todd Helton and Scott Podsednik all went deep for the Rockies but it was too little too late. The Cubs scored five runs in a three inning span that proved to be enough of a margin to win 5-4.
Alfonso Soriano went deep for the Cubs, a two run shot that was part of a three run inning in the second. The Cubs belted a total of six doubles in the game, four off Rusch.
Rusch was making his first start as a Rockie after being called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs. He spent the earlier part of the year with San Diego. For the night he gave up nine hits and five runs in 4.2 innings. It was a homecoming of sorts for Rusch who spent the last two seasons with the Cubs.
The Rockies managed just four hits, three of which left the yard.
Carlos Marmol picked up the save, his third of the year.
