The Rockies found themselves on a seven game losing streak and hoping to end it with starter Greg Reynolds and some offensive output that has been lacking all season. That hope was unfulfilled to say the least as the Rockies fell 8-2, dropping their eighth straight.
The Dodgers wasted little time in putting the game out of reach. They scored twice in each of the first two frames, followed by one more in the third. Jeff Kent homered in the first, a solo shot, part of the two run inning. The homer followed an Andre Ethier RBI double
In the second, Lowe executed a squeeze perfectly to bring in the first of two runs. Juan Pierre drove in the second run with a single. Ethier homered in the third and Kemp added a homer in the seventh.
Kemp had three hits in the game, two doubles and a homer.
Reynolds lasted just five innings. He gave up seven hits, and six runs, four of which were earned. He only struck out one and walked three.
Derek Lowe had all the support he needed. Lowe went eight very strong innings. He allowed just one run off five hits and only walked one. He struck out three in the outing.
The Rockies will look to end their losing ways by sending Jeff Francis to the hill in tomorrow’s game.
